HEALTH FAMILY WELFARE.

    The department is headed by the District  Health & Family Welfare Services assisted by 5 Programme Officers at the Dist. Level & 7 Taluk Health Officers.  Services available from various health institutions situated in the length & breadth of the district which are as  shown below.

    In  order to catch to the needs to the rural folk PHCs and PHUs are situated there in the remote villages. Every village & household in the District is getting door to door service by both female & male health workers who render health education and basic curative services. All PHCs & PHUs are mainatained by qualifying doctors who conduct out patient services on a daily basis & render inpatient facilities including delivery services to the needy.

Total population of the district as per 2001 census is 11.40 lakhs.   This district is having 52 PHCs, 39 PHUs and  with 4 First Referral Units.  366 sub-centers are working in this district with 9 Community Health Centers.

Under School Health Program, we are immunising children aged - 5 years, 10 years and 16 years

3. NATIONAL LEPROSY CONTROL PROGRAM

Under this programme 50 Leprosy cases have been detected and 58 cases were cured.

4. NATIONAL  BLINDNESS CONTROL PROGRAMME:

During 2004-05- Therewere 2854  Cataract cases havebeen operated where as 3023 cases operated last year.

5. NATIONAL  ANTI MALARIA PROGRAM

During 2004-05 about 3,06,995 blood smears have been examined in which 422 Malaria Positive cases detected and treated for malaria. Spraying have been taken in problamatic villages to control malaria.

6. NATIONAL TUBERCULOSIS PROGRAM

Under T.B. control program 1572  new cases are detected and put on treatment this year , also 11189  sputum have been collected and examined so far. In this District R.N.T.C.P. Programme is going on.

7. NATIONAL POLIO ERADICATION PROGRAM

Under National Polio Eradication Program 131860 children below 5 years have been administered polio vaccine in 2 rounds i.e., , April 2005  and May 2005.  In this district voluntary organization like Rotary, Lions, Community Leaders, Gram Panchayath Members, Mahila Mandal Members, Mahila Swasthya Sangh have been extending full co-operation for the success of intensified Pulse Polio Program. 

  "SAFE BLOOD SAVES LIFE"

District level Jatha and a public function have been conducted in October 2004 to create  awareness among public about the importance of Blood Donation. Blood Donation Camp has arranged and 40 bottles of Blood have been collected on that day. Blood Grouping has made for about 300 members.

K.F.D:

    About 97 KFD cases have been detected and treated from January 2004 to April 2005. Because of this disease 5 deaths have taken place in this district. Temporary hospitals have been opened in 2 problamatic taluks (Chikmagalur & N.R.pura) to treat KFD cases during that period. About 57,085 people have been vaccinated against this disease. 

P.N.D.T:

    30 Institutions both Govt. & Private have registered under this Act.  Advisory Committee Meeting have been conducting once in every 2 months.

Health Education under I.E.C. Components:

    Under I.E.C. Components there are 2 parts. They are (1) Budgetary Programmes (2) Non Budgetary Programmes. 

    These IEC Programmes are aimed to creat awareness among the common people. The budgetary programmes we are conducting are :

(1) Baby Show                                                  -  Conducting in rural areas

(2) Face to Face Programme for Mothers         -  Conducting in rural areas

(3) Women's Day                                             -  Celebrating in March 8th in village level,

                                                                           Taluk level, & Dist. Level

(4) Population Day                                           _ Celebrating on  11th July every year Tq.Level     

                                                             & Dist. Level

(5) Opinion Leaders Training Camps                - Conducting in villages by selected people.

(6) Trained Dais Re-orientation Traing            - Conducting for 40 dais at taluk level

      at Taluk Level

Non Budgetary Programmes:

  1.  Video shows conducted in villages to create awareness among rural folk on various diseases.

  2. Mini & large exhibitions conducted in the places where Tubectomy & Laproscopic camps are arranged

 3. Awareness campaigns arranged in the schools & colleges by conducting Jatha on various diseases. i.e. on HIV/ AIDS/Malaria.

4. Blood group in camps and and blood donating camps will arrange in the taluk level & Dist. level.
