Implementation of national project on BioGas development programmes is a part of 20 points programme of central government. The main objective of the projects are
To provide fuel for cooking purpose and organic manure to rural house holds through family type bio gas plants.
To mitigate drudgery of rural women, reduce pressure on forests and accentuate social benefits
To improve sanitation in village by linking sanitory toilets with bio gas plants
The programme came in to operation intensively since 1982-83. The programme is on subsidy pattern.
Priorities:
Minimum of 10% plants to SC/ST families and a minimum of 5% of plants to tribal families of the total plants targetted in the district.
Hilly regions, places where there is a problem for fuel , places where there is threat on forest degradation
